Board of Directors Meeting – Tuesday Oct 23rd 6pm

October 17, 2007 · 3 Comments

If you have any issues you would like to bring up with the board, there is an open homeowners forum before hand.  The meetings usually take place in the lobby or in the management office.

I plan on attending and giving the board members a reminder that while we are evaluating such things as carpeting the entryway from the garage and “beautifying” the lobby – there is a very real chance that at this time next year we may be facing a significant number of units which are either in foreclosure or are owned by absentee owners.  In either event, we will not be getting association dues from those units – so it might be a good idea to keep the purse strings tied for a little while…

(not to mention we are in an old building and have already had a dozen elevator repairs, a new chiller, a new boiler, a new exit gate, and more unexpected repairs in our first year)

Maybe I am just sensitive because my dues are $496 and I am really really hoping against all odds that they don’t break the $500 mark anytime soon?

I did make it to the meeting and the board approved a high expense security camera upgrade. I do not understand why they are making decisions without getting the thoughts of the owners. It seems like they are trying to make improvements based on personal concerns and not for the good of the community.

How is it that they can do this anyway. I am under the impression that most associations will get a majority vote as opposed to spending our money without notice.

I regret not being there, but my daughter was sick.

I am not sure the board needs our votes, that is why we elect officials, however I agree entirely that any large expense should be either voted on, or at a minimum be put up for input or discussion.

I do worry that some decisions are made without enough foresight (like continuing to pay to fix items that were never designed for the level of use they get here – rather than replacing them and pursuing the developer to absorb some of that cost).

What was the rational for getting security cameras? Have there been break-ins or other criminal acts taking place? If so, it would probably be a good idea to get the word out to the residents. If not, I just hope we are getting cameras to watch for people who are not taking their pets to the designated areas outside.
